I have enjoyed many visits to the Zipps Sports Grill at Greenway & 64th over the years. I remember when it was a lot smaller with the entrance at a different place, and then it was closed for a period of time for renovations. Today was only my second time back to Zipps since it reopened, and I am impressed by how large it is, how many tables there are, and how quickly the service is. Recognizing that there was a special sporting event this morning starting at 11 AM (the time that Zipps would typically open). It was the Peach Bowl, and ASU was playing Texas in the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoffs. I called this morning to confirm they were opening at 10:30 AM, and I arrived fifteen minutes early to find a VERY long line wrapping around the building. When 10:30 AM got here, the line moved rather quickly, and I was very impressed not only to get a table with my three friends inside but also to see that everyone in line eventually got a seat or table. That wouldn't have been the case before the renovations. Well done, Zipps!! I was also impressed by how quick the service was. I assumed the only way this was possible would be if they had enough staff working. From when we first sat down to when we were ready to place an order to checking in regularly and finally getting us a check and running credit cards, we never had to wait long to see our server and get anything from him. The actual facility is great as there are large TVs everywhere. No matter where you are sitting, you can see many of them. You can probably see more TVs if you are sitting at a table or the bar as opposed to sitting at a booth. There is a large family friendly dining room, bar lounge, and spacious patio outside. The food itself was okay. My friends and I shared the beer cheese pretzels, and I then ordered chicken wings with mild golden sauce and a drink while my friends each ordered a sandwich or burger. I have ordered burgers and salads previously which were okay while I can do without the fries. On the other hand, the onion rings are very good. Fortunately, the food mixed with the sports entertainment and good service make it very worthwhile to visit Zipps. Zipps is a family owned and operated restaurant with 14 locations throughout the Greater Phoenix area. The restaurant hours are from 11 AM to 11 PM Mondays through Wednesdays, 11 AM to Midnight Thursdays through Saturdays, 10:30 AM to 11 PM Sundays. If there is a special sporting event, Zipps may open up early. Specials include Happy Hour (weekdays 3-7 PM) which include $3 pizza slices, $6 beer cheese pretzels, $12 chicken skewers, and many drink specials. There are also Weekend Hangover Specials (Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 4 PM) and Nightly Specials (from 8 PM to close).
If you're heading to Zipps Sports Grill, let me save you some time: order the Monaco Focaccia. It's amazing! I like to customize mine by getting the ranch on the side instead of inside, which lets you enjoy the perfect mix of flavors with the sweet jalapeño that comes with it. Plus, I always grab an extra side of golden medium sauce--it's the ultimate dip, sweet yet spicy, and just unique. My wife loves the Monaco Focaccia too, she is obsessed with it. Also I've been going to Zipps for as long as I can remember, probably 15+ years and have always really enjoyed it. The best part is choosing how to pair it--dip the focaccia, the fries (which are almost always crispy and delicious), or both. Their slice of pizza is solid too, and I can't skip mentioning the golden medium wings. That sauce is a standout! It's unlike anything else--sweet, spicy, and just right for wings. The newly renovated space is big, open, and perfect for hanging out. The service is generally good, but I know some people complain, expecting fine-dining service like it's Dominic's or something. At the end of the day, this is a sports bar with some of the best sports bar food I've had. And let's be real--being a sports bar, they might be understaffed half the time, but the food always makes up for it. If you go, don't leave without trying the Monaco Focaccia. Trust me, it's the thing to get!
The food is your typical bar food. The service was good but it is beyond LOUD in this place!! I get it's a sports bar but the main big screen tv is obnoxiously LOUD!!
Large sports bar with plenty of booths and tables. I think our waitress was new because we asked questions about the happy hour specials and food and she had to go ask someone else for the answer. Decent HH for beer but the HH food was still in $12 range.
Zipps is a fun spot! We met my brother and some friends here for an early dinner. We came with my 1 year old and he had so much to look at and so many people to say "hi" to! Our server was sweet, but very overwhelmed. She got a few orders wrong at our table, but she did let us know it was her first week, so I'm sure she was feeling nervous. I appreciate her telling us! The go-to is a zipparita! I can usually only have one because they are pretty sugary, but dang are they tasty! For my meal I went with the sweet jalapeno burger. The sweet jalapeño dressing served on the burger is delicious. Overall good meal and dining experience. Perfect spot for a game day!
